Compliance Plaques and Compliance Certificates in NZ

Elgas Home Delivery NZ

Gas fitters in New Zealand issue a gas certificate and sign off gas installations.

Compliance plaques are for users that have between 100-300kg on site.

Whether you need a location compliance certificate or a compliance plaque for the site depends on the quantity of LPG being held at the site at your workplace.

If you have more than 100kg and less than 300kg of LPG at the site, you must have either a location compliance certificate or a valid compliance plaque.

Location compliance certificates have a duration of 36 months and is issued by a compliance certifier.

A compliance plaque (see image) can be issued by your gas supplier after they have checked your installation and provided that the location has been granted a previous location compliance certificate.

Compliance LPG Plaque

Compliance plaques also have a maximum duration of 36 months.

If you have 300kg or more of LPG at your site, you will need a location compliance certificate. (There is no option of having a compliance plaque).

In New Zealand, if you store or use more than 100kg of LPG on your premises, it must comply with a WorkSafe approved Code of Practice.

One of the requirements is to have a valid Location Compliance Certificate (LCC).

Under the Code of Practice, LPG suppliers require a copy of the Location Compliance Certificate before being able to supply LPG to a customer.

How to get a Location Compliance Certificate (LCC)

A location compliance certificate (LCC) is issued by a compliance certifier.

To arrange a certificate, you will need to arrange for the compliance certifier to visit your location.

You can find a compliance certifier on the WorkSafe website at https://compliancecertifiers.worksafe.govt.nz/

Forklift Specific Information

  • A customer is not required to obtain an LCC if the number of forklift cylinders in use (permanently has cylinders on their forklift/s at all times) brings the total below 100kgs.
    • Example 1: If a customer is holding 7 x 15kg forklift cylinders that brings the total to 105kg but if this customer has 1 x 15kg forklift cylinders on the forklift then that cylinder is not counted as it is part of the fuel source for the forklift so customer then has 90kg which is under the limit so does not require an LCC. (location compliance certificate).
    • LPG Forklift gas bottlesExample 2: If a customer is holding 8 x 15kg forklift cylinders that brings the total to 120kg but if this customer has 1 x 15kg cylinders on the forklift then that cylinder is not counted as it is part of the fuel source for the forklift so customer then has 105kg which is over the limit so does require an LCC (location compliance certificate).
